We’re continuing the case of Satbayev: the III Geological Universiade has ended in Kazakhstan

From June 22 to 28, 2026, there was held the III Kazakhstan Geological Universiade in Oskemen city on “Prostor” summer expedition campus basis. The large-scale event aimed at strengthening the human resources potential of the industry was organized with the official support of Geology Committee at Industry and Construction Ministry of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

The initiative to hold the university game, which once originated within the walls of Satbayev University, has now grown into a powerful national movement that is actively supported by the country's leading higher education institutions. The current year, East Kazakhstan Technical University named after D. Serikbayev acted as the host and co-organizer. Organizers express their sincere gratitude to EKTU leadership and personally to Rector Saula Rakhmetullina for the amazing hospitality, providing a wonderful contemporary venue and creating ideal conditions for the participants.

The well-coordinated collaboration of the two largest technical universities allowed us to create a brilliant professional duo, setting the highest bar for future competitions.

Particular status of the event was emphasized by the honored guests’ visit. The Universiade site was visited by East Kazakhstan region’s deputy akim Yerbol Nurgaliyev, who noted the importance of supporting young professionals for the region’s industrial growth. Gulzada Shakulikova, Rector of Atyrau University of Oil and Gas named after Safi Utebayev, arrived in Oskemen specifically to participate in the closure and support of the geological movement. It is symbolic that Atyrau, Kazakhstan’s oil capital, will host the next IV Kazakhstan Geological Universiade in 2027.

Universiade mission is to popularize geological sciences among Kazakhstani youth and to revive interest in the profession of a geologist. By evolving the engineering education and involving the students in real field conditions, the organizers are directly continuing the great work of Kanysh Satbayev.

The current Universiade brought together the best students of universities and colleges in Kazakhstan studying under "Geology and exploration of mineral deposits" degree program. During intense intellectual contests and the most difficult field routes, the participants demonstrated not only deep theoretical knowledge, but also readiness for real work in the industry.

In line with the hard struggle results among higher educational institutions, the prizes were distributed as follows:

1^st place – Nazarbayev University, “Tourists” team;

2^nd place – Satbayev University, “Sulfides” team;

3^rd place – Kazakh-British Technical University, “The British” team.

Special attention within the university game framework was paid to supporting young talents at the secondary vocational education level. Based on the separate contest results among college students, the main awards were educational grants from Satbayev University for further bachelor studies: Nikita Eisfeld, a student of MSOE “Geological Exploration College” (Semey), won Rector's grant from Satbayev University; Zhaksybek Aidan, a student of MSOE “Geological Exploration College” (Semey), won an educational grant from East Kazakhstan Technical University named after D. Serikbayev.

The III Kazakhstan Geological Universiade has once again proved that it is a key dialogue and practical platform for the professional growth of young specialists, effective exchange of experience and consolidation of the efforts of the academic community for the sake of Kazakhstan’s industrial and scientific future.
