Vector to the future: Satbayev University’s scientific community discussed the new Constitution’s role in the science evolvement

On July 1, 2026, Satbayev University hosted a lecture hour on “Constitution and science: the vector of the future of Kazakhstan” topic.
The event brought together University’s faculty, scientists, staff, doctoral students as well as students. The meeting was timed to coincide with the entry into force of the new Constitution of the Republic of Kazakhstan on July 1, 2026. Participants discussed its significance for developing the science and higher education.

The meeting's principal purpose was to form an understanding among young people of the Constitution not only as a solid foundation for a rule-of-law state, but also as a strategic document that creates conditions for scientific and technological growth, innovation and academic freedom.
Yerik Merkibayev, Satbayev University Young Scientists Council’s chairman, and Arman Umirzakov, a young scientist and acting head of Laboratory of electrochemistry and vanadium flow batteries at Physics and Technology Institute, took part in the discussion.
Speakers noted that the new Constitution is not only a guarantee of the rights and freedoms of citizens, but also a solid legal basis for modernizing the system of higher education and science. They emphasized the role of science in ensuring the  country’s economic growth and technological independence, as well as the special mission of universities in training a new generation of researchers.
"Constitution is the legal foundation of our country, and science is the driving force behind its development. Educated, responsible and proactive young people are the unifying link between these two values," Yerik Merkibayev said.
During the lecture, it was also noted that the new Constitution defines the long-term course of the country's growth. "We are on the threshold of a historic stage. For the scientific community, the given document defines long-term guidelines for the country's evolvement. Without the development of engineering, it is impossible to modernize the state. Constitution guarantees every citizen the right to intellectual development and creates a solid foundation for supporting young talents," Arman Umirzakov said.
In line with the event, the participants emphasized that legal literacy, youth civic responsibility and respect for the rule of law are the most important conditions for building The Fair Kazakhstan.
