The qualifying chess championship in Almaty was held at Satbayev University

The Southern Student Chess Division of Almaty, held on April 13-14 at Satbayev University, brought together the best young chess players who demonstrated a high level of skill and strategic thinking. This is the student sports league, which was attended by 16 teams of Almaty сity, including the Satbayev University team.

The contests were held in the team format according to Swiss rapid system. The tournament was held in 9 rounds over two days. The draw was conducted by Swiss-Manager program. Each team had 6 participants: 3 boys, 3 girls. In total, 80 people from different universities of Almaty took part in the competition. The teacher Alibek Nigmetov was the judge, a prize-winner of international and national competitions, multiple winner and prize-winner of chess festivals in Almaty.

The teams that took the top five places in the competition advance to the finals, which will be held in Astana in May. The teams of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, KBTU and KazNPU named after. Abai, won in a hard fight, who were awarded cups, medals and valuable prizes.

This is not the first time Satbayev University has become an arena for intellectual battles - and the given tournament has also not only become a visible symbol of a healthy lifestyle and leadership development, but also helped students from different educational institutions establish new friendships among themselves.

At the closing ceremony,  Chingis Nurgalimov, Regional Director of Kazakhstani Chess Federation, held a speech as well as awarded and congratulated the winners on the successful games. The given Federation was the sponsor of the past tournament.
