A National Student IT Project Competition Held at Satbayev University

The student competition for IT projects and research at Satbayev University brought together talented students from all institutes of the university, who presented their developments in key areas of the digital economy — artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, online fraud prevention, fintech innovations, and digital solutions for the financial sector.

The competition focused on supporting youth innovation, identifying promising ideas, and encouraging the adoption of modern technologies in the development of the country’s financial and banking sector. Organizers emphasized that the event became an important step in encouraging students who are initiators of innovation in fintech and information security.

Participants demonstrated a high level of professional training and the ability to apply IT tools to solve real-world problems. Project presentations were accompanied by expert feedback and open discussions, turning the competition into a platform for experience exchange, networking, and practical recommendations from industry representatives.

As a result of the competition, Yerlan Mamutuly Ayapov, a 3rd-year student majoring in Information Security, took first place with his project “Research and Development of a Cyberattack Detection System in IoT Based on Federated Learning.” Second places were awarded to Zhansultan Raybekov for his project on using artificial intelligence to predict fraudulent transactions; Ruslan Niyazbay, Adilet Abdambay, and Dana Aset for their fintech startup idea on financial literacy; and Asyl Azatbek for developing a sign language recognition system using computer vision.

The jury noted the high quality of the presented projects and emphasized that the students’ initiatives reflect the strategic priorities of Kazakhstan’s digitalization. According to experts, the competition became a vivid example of Satbayev University students’ involvement in innovation, engineering thinking, and scientific research.

As Kazakhstan’s first technical university, Satbayev University continues to advance engineering education and strengthen its position as a leading center for innovation and digital technologies in the country.
