Please note that foreigners can enroll in the university during the year, but they can only study on a fee basis. For discounts and other programs, see "Discounts" section.

DOCUMENTS AND REQUIREMENTS

Process of admission to Satbayev University for international entrants takes place online. Upon admission, you provide the documents’ digital copies required at the first stage.

Foreign students submit the originals of the remaining documents to the university after successfully completing the interview, enrolling, obtaining a visa and arriving in Kazakhstan. All transfers, nostrification of documents and receipt of medical certificates are carried out on Republic of Kazakhstan territory.

We recommend that you prepare in advance and have all the necessary documents with you at all stages.

• What documents and education are needed for admission?

  To enroll in Satbayev University for a bachelor's, master's or doctoral degree program, an appropriate level of education is required. At the first stage, the applicant provides the following set of documents for confirmation:

  1. Application for admission (you fill it out in the electronic admissions office on the website https://kb.satbayev.university/).
  2. Passport with a notarized translation into Kazakh or Russian (certified by a notary of Kazakhstan). It is important: the passport must expire no earlier than 12 (twelve) months after the start of the academic year.
  3. Document on education and its supplement.
  4. Notarized translation of the document on education and its supplement into Kazakh or Russian (certified by a notary of Kazakhstan).
  5. Certificate confirming English language proficiency in case of admission to doctoral programs or programs with English language of instruction:
     1. IELTS Academic — at least 5.0 points
     2. TOEFL IBT — at least 35 points
     3. TOEFL ITP — at least 417 points
     4. TOEIC — at least 550 points
     5. Duolingo English Test — at least 80 points

  Upon arrival in Kazakhstan, applicants also provide the following documents along with the originals of the above documents:

  6. Certificate of solvency from the bank (at least $5,000 in the account).
  7. Certificate from PSC confirming submission of a notarized copy of educational documents for nostrification (upon arrival in Kazakhstan).
  8. Vaccination card № 063, medical certificate № 075-u and fluorography (upon arrival in Kazakhstan).
  9. Certificate of HIV (AIDS) testing (upon arrival in Kazakhstan).
  10. Medical insurance (for 1 year) (upon arrival in Kazakhstan).
  11. Contract (at the admissions office upon arrival in Kazakhstan).
  12. 3×4 photos (3 pcs.).

   

  Entrants who enroll in doctoral programs must also provide additional documents:

  1. Personal personnel record sheet / document from the place of work (certified by HR)
  2. List of scientific publications for the last 3 years
  3. Research plan
  4. Motivation essay or letter of recommendation

  All these documents must also be scanned and kept in electronic form. Translation and notarization of documents are carried out on the territory of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

• Complete step-by-step enrollment procedure at Satbayev University

  Enrollment at Satbayev University takes place in the remote-face-to-face format. First, you go through a remote selection and an interview, and only after a positive decision, you arrive in Kazakhstan with the full package of documents.

  4	After submitting the primary documents, you will be assigned an online interview with representatives of the department, Admissions Committee, and International Office.	Within 1 week after submitting the documents

• What documents should be prepared in your country
  • Identity document (ID, internal and foreign passports)
  • Document on education and an appendix to it.
  • Residence permit or work permit / long-term visit, if you are not a resident of the country whose citizenship you have

  The document on education and the appendix to the document on education must be apostilled or legalized. After arriving in Kazakhstan, you must receive notarized translations and/or copies of the given documents.

  If your documents are written in Russian or Kazakh, you need copies. If in any other language, a notarized translation into Kazakh or Russian is required.

• What additional information is needed?

  Depending on which country you live in, you will need to apply for a C9 student visa to study. Students need to apply for a visa through Consulate/Embassy of Kazakhstan in their country of residence. The duration of processing your visa documents will depend on a number of factors, including your country of residence. Before coming to Kazakhstan for admission to the university, consult with Consulate of Kazakhstan to get more detailed information about the procedure for applying for a visa, the necessary documents and the timing of its issuance.

• Do I need a visa to travel to Kazakhstan?

  In order to come to Kazakhstan for a short period of time, a visa is normally not needed, since Kazakhstan has an agreement on visa-free regime with most countries. You can spend 14, 30 or 90 days in Kazakhstan without a visa, depending on which country you come from. During this time, you will have time to certify the documents, submit them to the university and pass an interview.

  In the future, you will need to get a student visa to study.
  
  However, in order to comply with the migration legislation of the Republic of Kazakhstan, each student is required to inform the staff of Department for work with international students about arrival in Kazakhstan within 2 calendar days from the date of crossing the RK state border.

• Do I need to take an exam or get an UNT certificate?

  No, foreign citizens enter without entrance exams or UNT, on the basis of an interview.

• How to get a certificate of recognition and nostrification of educational documents?

  Certificate of recognition of education must be obtained from the PSC ("State Corporation "Government for Citizens"). To do this, the following documents are submitted:

  • Identity document
  • Application for recognition of educational documents (to be filled in on the spot)
  • A copy of the legalized or apostilled document on education and its supplements with a notarized translation (if the document is completely in a foreign language), including the translation of the seal.

• How to get a health certificate # 075-y + fluorography snapshot?

  In order to get a certificate on # 075-y form, you need to come to the student polyclinic or Satbayev University corporate clinic located on the university territory. You can take and receive a fluorography image at the same time as receiving the certificate.

• How to get a certificate of HIV (AIDS) testing?

  It is necessary to be tested for HIV at Center for Prevention and Control of AIDS in Almaty. You will receive a certificate when taking blood.

• How to get an invitation letter?

  Such a letter is received by the coordinator for work with foreign students from Migration Service Department of Almaty Police Department. This can take up to 14 days, so students should pay the fee and send all the necessary documents as soon as possible:

  • A copy of the main page of the passport with a notarized translation into Kazakh or Russian
  • A copy of permit of residence or work permit / long-term visit with a notarized translation into Kazakh or Russian in the event that you permanently live not in your country of citizenship
  • Letter of admission to Satbayev University

  Make sure that all your personal data is correct and corresponds to the information in your passport. If something is incorrectly indicated in any of the documents, contact Admissions Committee urgently.

• How to apply for a visa

  To apply for a visa, you need to follow the instructions listed on the official websites of Embassy / Consulate of the Republic of Kazakhstan in your country.

  As a rule, the following documents are required:

  • Invitation letter
  • Visa application form
  • Letter of admission to Satbayev University
  • Passport (original + two copies), which must be valid for at least six months after the expiration of the requested visa and must contain at least two blank pages to mark the visa)
  • A copy of the booking of a ticket to Kazakhstan
  • One photo (3.5cm x 4.5cm)
  • Additional documents: bank statements, medical insurance, proof of residence in Almaty (hotel reservation, hostel, etc.)
  • Payment of visa fee (depends on the country)

  All these documents must also be with you when you arrive in Kazakhstan, as they may be asked to show when crossing the border.

  Foreign students arriving from Russia, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan and Tajikistan, instead of a visa on arrival, temporary registration is issued at the place of residence for a period of one academic year. To make a temporary registration, you need to provide the original of your passport to Department for work with foreign students.

• When can I start training

  A foreign student can start studying after obtaining a student visa and registering with Migration Police of the Republic of Kazakhstan after arriving in Almaty. You must notify the migration service of your arrival within three calendar days from the moment of crossing the border of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

PAYMENT AND DISCOUNTS

Tuition fees at Satbayev University are calculated per year of study (36 credits for Bachelor's degree program). The tuition fee starts from $4,000.

• Scholarship program of Center of Bologna Process and Academic Mobility at RK MS&HE

  The Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan provides grants for foreign students, including those of Kazakh nationality who are not citizens of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

  The program provides students with free tuition and a monthly scholarship depending on the student’s academic success.

  Online acceptance of documents under the program is carried out from April 1 to May 31 annually.

About International Students Department

All international students enrolled in bachelor's, master's, and doctoral programs have study visas. Most students are provided with a university dormitory located next to the campus.
Department for International Students helps them register their passport, obtain a visa, and settle in at their place of study. Contact them and they will definitely help you!

Other issues

• How can we get a study visa to Kazakhstan?

  It is necessary to send the scanned passport and the invitation form filled out by you to Department for International Students (a.kuatova@satbayev.university ). It takes about 5 business days to receive the invitation number from the local migration police. A student can apply for a study visa to Kazakhstan based on an invitation approved by Migration Police of Kazakhstan in their country of residence. A study visa is issued for one academic year. The cost of a multiple-entry visa is 30 MCI (monthly calculation index).

• Where and how can we register our passports?

  Passports of international students must be registered with Migration Police of Almaty. Registration is carried out for one year and is renewed annually for the entire study period. To register a passport, you must provide the following documents:
  • Original passport
  • A copy of the Kazakh visa page
  • Confirmation letter from the registrar of the university (year of study and faculty)
  • Insurance policy.

• Why do international students need to register?

  International students are required to register their passports in accordance with the rules of stay of foreign citizens in Kazakhstan within 3 days after crossing the border. If students fail to comply with these requirements, Migration Police may impose a fine or deport them from the country.

• Where can I get an insurance policy?

  Insurance can be obtained from any insurance company in Kazakhstan (NOMAD, Interteach, etc.).

• How and where can I get an IIN (individual identification number)?

  IIN can be obtained at any office of PSC (Public Service Center). Take with you a notarized copy of your passport with the translation into Kazakh or Russian.

• Where can I get the AIDS test?

  You can take the AIDS test and get a certificate at the address: Bassenov Street, 2. Do not forget to bring your passport with you. The certificate is valid for 3 months.
