A new eco-bench made at Satbayev University Eco-Hub has been installed in Almaty

Another bench made of recycled plastic, made on the basis of the technological eco-hub Satbayev University, was installed in Almaly district in Almaty. The project was implemented within the framework of the urban environmental initiative with the support of the Almaty Akimat, business and public organizations.

"A very important achievement," said Yevgeny Mukhamedzhanov, founder of ECO Network project and head of Green Almaty project office, "was that we managed to draw business attention to the waste recycling issue. A sponsor was found who helped the university to create an object on the city site, and it's cool," he stressed.

The environmental initiative was supported by Almaty Mayor Darkhan Satybaldy, who instructed the solution to be found as a pilot project in one of the city's districts. Almaly district was chosen to implement the project, where the district’s akim Arman Shamshin, has long and consistently supported the eco-agenda. Deputy akim of the district Olzhas Kurmanbekuly also took part in installing the bench. The bench was made by order of “Leovit” company with the support of its director Yelena Smirnova.

This is not the first such initiative. The first bench was installed a year ago on the initiative of Arman Kagarov, director of RTS Deco. Two more were made after the eco-festival on Lake Sayran on Youth Day in cooperation with Youth Policy Office in Almaty. Four benches made of recycled plastic were sent to Astana by Dutch Embassy’s decree. In the near future, similar facilities will be installed on Arbat and in other public spaces of the city.

Satbayev University noted that evolvement of the eco-hub and similar initiatives is fully consistent with University's strategy to create a sustainable campus and introduce green technologies into the urban environment, and cooperation with Akimat and business opens up new opportunities for scaling the environmental projects.
