Deputy of Parliament Mazhilis Irina Smirnova visited Satbayev University with the working visit
Today, Deputy of Parliament Mazhilis Irina Smirnova, together with the public and media representatives, on the eve of the new academic year, got acquainted with the work of the situation center for placing the students in dormitories, and also checked dormitories readiness at Satbayev University for the new academic year.
During the monitoring, the issues of unhindered accommodation of students in dormitories were discussed.
- This is a very complex issue, full of many problems and risks, requiring the comprehensive consideration, and in the future, issues regarding dormitories will always be in the center of our attention. As you know, there are very strong, very high-quality universities in the northern regions, but all students try to come to Almaty. And there may not be enough space for students in university dormitories here. It is important to provide comfortable living conditions for students and create conditions for their development and education. Therefore, we need student dormitories that meet sanitary standards, infrastructure, student safety, and certain budget requirements. It is also necessary to continue working on improving the living conditions of students and expanding the network of student dormitories," Irina Smirnova said.
Currently, Satbayev University has 5 dormitories and House of Young Scientists with 2075 seats. In addition, Memorandum was signed with 7 hostels for 616 places. Negotiations are underway with several more hostels to get an additional 1999 seats.
At the same time, to date, University has received 2,400 applications for a place in the dormitory. Allocation of seats is carried out by the commission in the strict order. A specially created situation center helps students. Transparency of the procedure is provided by Student Dean's Office and Ombudsman.
- All universities are making every effort to solve the given problem, situation centers work 24/7. They accept applications in electronic format and hold meetings with students. Even if you are a student of another university, you can come to any university and get advice. All student ombudsmen will interact with each other and take appropriate measures to resolve this situation," Majilis deputy summed up.
