In honor of Science Day, young scientist Yelriza Yeszhan spoke about how geo-polymers can save the planet

Satbayev University supported "Step into Science" challenge, organized by the scientists from D. Serikbayev East Kazakhstan Technical University in honor of Science Day. One of the participants of the challenge, Yelriza Yeszhan, a 1st year doctoral student at O.A. Baikonurov Mining and Metallurgical Institute, shared her story about how science came into her life.
Yeszhan said that her path to science began in childhood. Her parents, a chemist mom and an engineer dad, inspired her to choose a scientific career. Watching their work and efforts, she realized that chemistry can change the whole world, and therefore working in science is the best choice for her. Her own project to develop geo-polymers from mining and metallurgical industry waste is a vivid example of how innovative solutions can contribute to solving the global environmental problems.
"The synthesis of geo-polymers helps to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 70%, which is much less than emissions from traditional cement. This is very important in the context of the global environmental crisis," Yelriza said.
She also thanked the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan and Science and Higher Education Ministry for the support of young scientists, which motivates them to continue working with full dedication. Her words confirm that science is not just a profession, but an opportunity to change the world for the better for future generations.
