In honor of the anniversary of the Republic of Kazakhstan Constitution, students launched a weather satellite in the Almaty region

Satbayev University had a scientific expedition to launch a 1U AlfaSat-SU student weather satellite. The launch was timed to coincide with 30^th anniversary of the Republic of Kazakhstan Constitution. The given event became not only a scientific experiment, but also a symbol of University's contribution to the science and education evolvement in the country on the landmark date for the state.

The expedition was organized by Satbayev University’s National scientific laboratory for the collective use of information and space technologies with the participation of KazNU named after al-Farabi. The experiment took place at the end of August in Akshi village in Almaty region’s Ili district and became an important step in developing the satellite technologies in Kazakhstan.

AlfaSat-SU weather satellite was exploited, which has the potential for military applications, including providing low-altitude flights, calculating ballistic trajectories and optimizing communication systems. The weather satellite was equipped with temperature, pressure and humidity sensors and collected meteorological data. The satellite rose to 6.5 kilometers and successfully returned to earth due to a parachute.

 “Second-year robotics students participated in the project. It was a unique practical experience for them: they not only observed, but also participated in the launch and processing of data that will become the basis for future engineering projects,” project manager Daniyar Ismailov, Director of Satbayev University’s NSLCUIST.

The launch enabled not only to collect unique data and compare them with computer modeling results, but also became a significant practical school for students mastering the satellite technologies. The data obtained will be applied in degree programs and will form the basis for future scientific publications and grant research.
