Paris internship and scientific recognition: Professor of the Department of Architecture at Satbayev University presented Kazakhstan at an international seminar in Paris

From June 3 to 11, 2025, Alexey Abilov, Professor of the Department of Architecture at Satbayev University, traveled to Paris (France) at the invitation of CERCES, the Center for Studies of Russia, the Caucasus, Eastern Europe and Central Asia. This prestigious scientific institution operates at one of the leading universities in France and is known for its interdisciplinary research activities in the fields of social sciences, urban studies and regional development.
During the visit, the professor completed a scientific internship at the Center, during which he got acquainted with current research areas, methodologies and international projects in the field of urbanism and spatial planning. Special attention was paid to the exchange of experience in the field of urban environment transformation and comparative studies of urban planning strategies.
The internship culminated with participation in a traditional scientific seminar of the Department of Sociology, History and Geography, where the professor made a presentation on the topic: “The origins and trends of urban planning and territorial planning in modern Kazakhstan”.
The report aroused the keen interest of the audience, which included researchers, undergraduates and doctoral students from France, Eastern Europe and Central Asian countries. During the presentation, the key stages of the evolution of Kazakhstan's urban planning policy, the influence of historical, cultural and climatic factors on the architectural appearance of cities, as well as modern challenges and trends in sustainable planning were presented.
At the end of the event, the report was highly appreciated by the audience for its in-depth analytical approach, relevance of the topic and clear structuring of the material. The presentation of Kazakhstan's scientific experience on such an authoritative platform has become a significant contribution to the international scientific dialogue and strengthened the university's academic ties with foreign research centers.
