Satbayev University and KAZ Minerals are building the future of Kazakhstan's mining industry together

The twelfth Mining Forum, an annual production platform for exchanging the experience in the mining field of KAZ Minerals Group, has started its work at Satbayev University.
"Studying domestic and international experience in the field of mining process management" forum was attended by mining engineers of KAZ Minerals Group from all over Kazakhstan, foreign experts from Bogr Engineering (Australia), SRK Consulting Finland (Finland), MOS Consulting (Australia), Satbayev University’s scientists and students.
Forum was opened by Satbayev University’s Rector Meiram Begentayev and Technical Director of KAZ Minerals Johan Barnard, who noted that KAZ Minerals Group, which is the leader in copper production in Kazakhstan, achieved its leadership position thanks to its employees, many of whom studied at Satbayev University:
- One of the goals of the Mining Forum, - he said, - is to bring together our mining specialists, our future employees and introduce them to each other. Together we can become stronger as a mining industry in Kazakhstan.
It was not by chance that Satbayev University was chosen as a platform for such an acquaintance - KAZ Minerals Group is open to cooperation with research and academic organizations, organizes hackathons and welcomes new innovative projects. Damir Smagulov, a graduate of the university, chief mining engineer of KAZ Minerals, noted that the twelfth Mining Forum opened the opportunity for both students and university teachers to hear world-class mining engineers and gain knowledge directly from production workers:
"It's pleasant to be here," he said. - These are our native walls, and we would like to reveal our knowledge and experience to students. It is known that a person receives the most important knowledge already in production and now a piece of production has come to the university.
In addition to the practical issues of the transition from open-pit to underground mining at KAZ Minerals mines in Aktogay, the participants discussed current trends and problems faced by the industry, enrichment and processing, artificial intelligence and geo-technics. An important part of the forum was the speeches of University’s doctoral students, who had the opportunity to present their student work to a future employer.
