Satbayev University: Creating a new digital future for the energy capital of Kazakhstan

Satbayev University received the delegation from Ekibastuz Akimat, headed by Deputy Akim Kanysh Adilzhanov, to discuss prospects for cooperation in the field of technological development, digitalization and training of engineering personnel aimed at improving the urban environment quality and reducing man-made pollution.

Ekibastuz is a city of great strategic importance, the industrial heart of Kazakhstan. It is home to the world's largest coal mine and the tallest chimney on the planet. This is a region with enormous energy potential, which, however, faces serious challenges in maintaining and modernizing its large-scale infrastructure.

Satbayev University team presented a comprehensive strategy to address the given challenges – “Digital Ekibastuz” platform, which integrates cutting-edge research and innovation into the single ecosystem based on two key modules:

• Digital Foundation is the digital twin of the city, which includes 3D modeling of each building, geological layers and, most importantly, underground engineering networks.
• AI Platform is the "brain" of the system that provides analytics and decision-making: predictive modeling of infrastructure risks, video analytics based on artificial intelligence for public safety (SafeKids.AI), as well as intelligent automation to improve the efficiency of Akimat.

Project is based on the principle of technological sovereignty, to which Satbayev University attaches particular importance. The entire artificial intelligence platform is deployed locally, which means the complete preservation of data and analytics under the control of the akimat. No external cloud dependencies, complete data security and digital independence.

On the second day of the visit, the delegation visited a number of production sites located in "Alatau Park of Innovative Technologies" Free economic zone. The guests visited the production of filtration elements and reverse osmosis membranes, production of radiation-modified heat shrinkable materials, as well as manufacturing the digital devices, and accounting systems for heat, water, gas and electricity  of Kazakhstani production by NERO GROUP company.
