Satbayev University Hosted the “Environmental Readings” Event
The discussion centered on fairy tales by Platon Nechaev, a child author working in the field of environmental education and ecotourism. Nine of his fairy tales are dedicated to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. As part of the meeting, the fairy tale “The Secret of Mount Bolektau and the Trail of Wonders” was read aloud. The readers were philology students of Abai Kazakh National Pedagogical University together with their instructor, Bibizhan Abuova. The social reading format enabled participants not only to engage with the text but also to discuss the meanings embedded in it.
The second part of the event featured an open lecture by Perizat Komekbayeva, a representative of the environmental movement Recycle Birge, who shared her practical experience and insights into environmental education.
The Environmental Readings concluded with an interview session with Platon Nechaev (Karaganda), recorded especially for students of Satbayev University.
The event clearly demonstrated that literature and reading can serve as effective tools for shaping environmental awareness, critical thinking, and value orientations among young people, while the social reading format creates a space for meaningful dialogue and collective reflection.
Satbayev University hosted another edition of the Environmental Readings, an educational event combining the formats of social reading and an open lecture focused on environmental thinking. The ideological initiator and moderator of the event was Sholpan Adibayeva, Candidate of Philological Sciences and Associate Professor. The event was organized as part of the educational and mentoring activities of the Department of Kazakh and Russian Languages at Satbayev University.
