Satbayev University opens a new parking facility with EV charging stations
Satbayev University has opened another dedicated parking area on campus equipped with eight charging stations for electric vehicles, each with a capacity of up to 7 kW, for use by faculty and students. This project represents an important step toward reducing the university’s carbon footprint and reaffirms its commitment to sustainable development principles.
The newly created infrastructure is designed to support the growing interest in environmentally friendly transport and to provide comfortable conditions for EV owners. The use of electric vehicles contributes to reducing greenhouse gas emissions, improving air quality, and fostering a more environmentally responsible urban environment.
The project has been implemented in line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Goal 7 - Affordable and Clean Energy and Goal 13 - Climate Action. The introduction of EV charging infrastructure reflects the university’s strategic commitment to advancing renewable energy and transitioning toward a low-carbon economy.
“Developing sustainable campus infrastructure is one of our key priorities. The launch of EV charging stations is not only a response to current environmental challenges, but also a tangible contribution to the advancement of clean energy and green technologies,” - said Kassym Elemesov, Director of the Institute of Energy and Mechanical Engineering.
The implementation of this project further reinforces Satbayev University’s leadership in integrating sustainable development principles into its academic, research, and operational activities. The new parking facility is expected to promote the adoption of electric vehicles among students and staff, as well as contribute to the development of a sustainable urban ecosystem in Almaty.
Previously, three EV charging stations had already been installed on campus. The university will continue its systematic efforts to implement environmentally friendly initiatives, expand renewable energy solutions, and promote innovative approaches to sustainable development.
