Satbayev University Professors Took Part in the Opening of the International Joint Laboratory for the Study of Human Settlements in the Eurasian Grassland Belt

On May 19, 2025, a delegation of teachers from Satbayev University took part in the official opening of the International Joint Laboratory for the Study of Human Settlements in the Eurasian Grassland Belt took place at the Department of Architecture of Inner Mongolia University of Technology (Hohhot, PRC).

The new research center was initiated by Professor Zhang Pengju and aims to unite the efforts of architects and researchers from Central and Northern Asian countries in the fields of sustainable settlement, architectural heritage, climate strategies, and the interaction between humans and the natural environment in the steppe region.

Among the laboratory’s partners are the Moscow Institute of Architecture, the Mongolian University of Science and Technology, the Tashkent University of Architecture and Civil Engineering, and Satbayev University. During the opening ceremony, representatives of these institutions signed the agreement on the establishment of the laboratory, confirming their commitment to long-term cooperation, joint research, and educational initiatives.

Satbayev University was represented at the event by professors of the Department of Architecture Vladimir Yaskevich and Anuar Kapanov.

As part of the academic program, they gave a lecture titled “Sustainable Architecture and Urban Planning in Kazakhstan: The Experience of Satbayev University”, where they shared the university’s experience in developing architectural solutions adapted to the climatic and cultural features of Kazakhstan.

After the official part of the event, participants visited the Architecture Museum of Inner Mongolia University of Technology and viewed the projects of Professor Zhang, which reflect the principles of regional architecture harmoniously integrated into the steppe landscape.

During discussions with the administration and faculty members of the Department of Architecture, prospects for future cooperation were outlined, including academic exchange and joint scientific research.

Satbayev University’s participation in the work of the laboratory opens new opportunities for integrating Kazakhstan’s architectural school into the international research context and promoting the principles of sustainable development in the Eurasian region.
