Satbayev University students win second place at the international AGT Global Open Space – 2025 competition

On July 3, 2025, the final of the AGT Global Open Space – 2025 international architecture competition was held in Astana. The event was organized by AGT Kazakhstan with support from professional architectural communities and academic institutions. This year, participants were challenged to design a contemporary urban library — a public and inclusive space that goes beyond traditional book storage and becomes a hub for interaction, learning, and culture.
Second-year architecture students from Satbayev University — Vladislav Sidyakin and Kamila Dzhabaeva — were selected as finalists and awarded second place. Their project, titled WAVE, stood out among many submissions and successfully passed all three stages of the competition, culminating in a public presentation and exhibition in Astana.
The AGT Global Open Space – 2025 competition launched in January and was structured in several stages: submission of a conceptual proposal, architectural design development, and final public defense. The Satbayev University team impressed the jury with a project that balanced functionality, clarity of concept, and architectural expression.
WAVE is a proposal for a compact, modular urban library. The architectural composition is based on repeated structural elements, creating a wave-like form — hence the name. The space is designed to accommodate various scenarios, including reading, working, exhibitions, and public gatherings. The project emphasizes accessibility and adaptability, positioning the library as a living, flexible part of the urban fabric.
The jury praised the project for its clear spatial organization, thoughtful composition, and alignment with the needs of the contemporary city. The architectural culture of the proposal — its minimalism, coherence, and expressive form — was also highlighted.
The project was developed under the supervision of Vladimir Yaskevich, lecturer at the Department of Architecture, Satbayev University.
Satbayev University congratulates Vladislav Sidyakin and Kamila Dzhabaeva on their outstanding achievement and thanks the competition organizers for providing a platform that supports the professional growth of young architects.
