Satbayev University, together with University of Lorraine, are starting to train the personnel for “Mirny” energy park in Zhambyl region

Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs of France (Paris) hosted 16th meeting of the intergovernmental commission on economic cooperation between Kazakhstan and France, during which Satbayev University signed a trilateral agreement with “TotalEnergies” French energy company and University of Lorraine.

The agreement subject was the opening of a two-degree program at Satbayev University to train qualified personnel for TotalEnergies Renewables Kazakhstan, which is implementing the construction of “Mirny” energy park with the capacity of 1 GW in Zhambyl region. TotalEnergies Renewables Kazakhstan, in addition to investing in the energy sphere, will also actively participate in elaborating the curriculum and financing of the program.

On the Kazakh side, the given document was signed by Samgat Yermekbayev, First Vice-Rector for International Cooperation and Strategic Development at Satbayev University, and on the French side, Annie Dari-Muro, dean of Technical Faculty of Lorraine University, and Thierry Plaisant, CEO of TotalEnergies Renewables Kazakhstan.

As part of the signed agreement, starting in 2026, Satbayev University, commissioned by TotalEnergies, will begin annually to train up to 14 students who will study in Almaty for the first 3 years, the 4th year at Lorraine University campus in Metz with internships at TotalEnergies energy enterprises. Upon completion of the training, the engineers will be employed by TotalEnergies to service the wind turbines of Kazakhstan's largest “Mirny” wind power plant, which is capable of meeting the energy needs of about 1 million Kazakhstanis, including those from isolated rural areas.

Earlier, Satbayev University, with the support of Ministry of RK Science and Higher Education, signed an agreement to open a branch of Europe's largest scientific cluster of nuclear technologies, Grenoble INP - Phelma, UGA, to train highly qualified personnel in the nuclear engineering and renewable energy sphere (Nuclear Engineering, Renewable Engineering and Advance Material Studies). As part of the training, students will undergo practical training at French nuclear power plants, thereby gaining the necessary skills and qualifications to work at future domestic power plants.
