The year’s results at Satbayev University: responsibility to the country and future generations is University’s principal benchmark

Satbayev University hosted Rector's report on the results of 2025, the year that has become a significant point of growth for University, rethinking its mission and strengthening its role in evolving the engineering science in Kazakhstan. University’s Rector Meiram Begentayev addressed the staff with an inspiring speech dedicated to National Research Technical University’s mission as the highest measure of professional responsibility to the country and future generations of engineers.

– Our University is not estimated by square meters or the number of classrooms, it is measured by the scientific projects’ as well as new technologies’ results. For us, this is not a formal status, it is not a beautiful prefix to the name. We are in charge of technical science not only at University. We are accountable for it all over the country.

The results of University, which is working hard to achieve its goal, speak for themselves: the current year, University scientists became laureates of two al-Farabi State Prizes, the highest state award in the field of science and technology, and were awarded a number of other prestigious honors. Teams of the director of Hydrogeology and Geoecology Institute named after U.M. Akhmedsafin, doctor of sciences Malis Absametov and the director of Metallurgy and Enrichment Institute, doctor of technical sciences Bagdaulet Kenzhaliyev once again proved that Satbayev University’s scientific elaborations are of strategic importance for the country, have a real impact on industry and create new directions for Kazakh engineering science development.

Rector noted that education at Satbayev University is built through research and participation of students, undergraduates and doctoral students in real scientific and engineering projects. More than 15 new scientific laboratories were opened at University, 209 scientific projects are being implemented with the total funding of 15 billion tenge, and 856 articles were published in highly rated scientific journals with the participation of scientists from 101 countries.

Commercialization of scientific research and evolving the pilot industries have made it possible to strengthen University's relationship with industry and introduce research results into the economy’s real sector. In three years, the volume of contractual work amounted to 5 billion 100 million tenge, and collaboration with the regions empowered University to become a reliable partner of enterprises and government agencies. University is actively developing dual education and cooperation with employers: 40 branches of departments were opened at leading enterprises in Kazakhstan that contributes to the practice-oriented training of students and their employment.

University actively develops international cooperation: today Satbayev University has more than 200 international agreements, 32 joint programs, 24 of them are double degree programs. In 2025, University rose to 331 places in the QS ranking, and the number of international students reached 2,032 from 28 countries. Launch of Satbayev University campus in Astana expanded University's educational geography and opened up new opportunities for interaction with government agencies, industry and national companies. The first enrollment in the branch of City University of Hong Kong at Satbayev University took place, which showed that University has become a point of attraction for the country's best graduates.

During the report, there were noted University's scientific institutes’ achievements, growth of income from scientific activities and the pay raise of the teaching staff’s salaries.

Rector thanked the staff, scientists, students and graduates for their contribution to University growth and underlined that Satbayev University is confidently moving towards the goal of forming the research hub and strengthening leadership in the global academic space.

At the end of the event, there was held the award ceremony for University staff, as well as the awarding of diplomas to doctoral students who defended their doctoral dissertations this academic year. Congratulations to the new generation of scientists who are ready to continue Satbayev University traditions and work for the benefit of the country and future generations!
