The young Satbayev University team won the safety prize at Qatar International Shell Eco-marathon 2026

A new victory for the student engineering team SU Racing Team that represented Kazakhstan at International Shell Eco-marathon Qatar 2026 in Doha (Qatar). At the prestigious Lusail International Circuit, the team performed in Prototype-Battery Electric category, demonstrating not only engineering skills, but also the highest class in safety issues at all stages of preparation and participation in the marathon.

Principle of a systematic approach to safety has become a key one for the student team: from designing the car to the final races, the team followed strict standards to ensure that engineering solutions were as safe as possible for people and environment. Thanks to the given approach, SU Racing Team received the Special Safety Leadership Award and a cash prize of $3,000.

This year, only the younger generation of mechanical engineering athletes participated in the competition – first-year students presented the TOQ prototype 4.0 electric car at the contest and gained their first international engineering experience. Team’s captain was Aykhanym Shamshadin, and the mentoring support was provided by Alibek Ibraim, the founder of the team. An important part of the success was the support of Satbayev University, which gave students the opportunity to develop and represent their native University in the global engineering arena.

SU Racing Team is a student engineering team of Satbayev University, established in August 2017 and developing the energy-efficient cars for international Shell Eco-marathon competitions. The team has repeatedly shown good results, and its prototype became the first eco-car to be included in Top 10 energy-efficient cars in Asia, Oceania and the Middle East.
