City of Hong Kong Branch has started the process of admitting the undergraduates and doctoral students to dual degree programs

Professor Ho Yu Ki, Deputy dean of CityUHK School of Postgraduate Education, called his university "Hong Kong MIT" at the meeting with Satbayev University students, which took place as part of admitting the first stream of students to dual degree programs.

Representatives of City University of Hong Kong conducted interviews with candidates who had previously been pre-selected based on academic achievements and English language proficiency. As a result of the interview, selected candidates in the fields of Computer Science, Material Science and Civil Engineering will continue their studies at CityU. The training will begin in September 2025.

In addition, Hong Kong delegation held a meeting with students of Satbayev University to talk about the opportunities for studying master's and doctoral programs at City University of Hong Kong. The guests gave a lecture and answered questions, as well as conducted individual consultations for those who are considering the admission in the future.

Mr. Ho Yu Ki spoke in detail about CityUHK's work and programs and encouraged students to take advantage of the opportunities offered by Kazakhstan and Hong Kong:

"Your generation is the future of Kazakhstan, and your task is to move your nation forward," he said. – In the modern world, technology and artificial intelligence are becoming key drivers of economic development, and it is important for Kazakhstan to become a part of this progress. We invite you to join us to build a future together in which advanced knowledge and innovation determine the society growth.

First Vice-Rector for International Cooperation and Strategic Development, Samgat Yermekbayev, who took part in the lecture, stressed that every student has the opportunity to obtain a PhD degree in Hong Kong as part of a double PhD degree, which is planned to be launched as the next stage within the framework of the strategic partnership with CityU.

The program of the visit continued with group discussions and an exchange of experience between representatives of City of Hong Kong and Satbayev University. The discussions covered key scientific areas: materials science, computer science, civil engineering and management. Leading professors and researchers from both universities took part in the discussions, which allowed us to outline new ways for academic collaboration, joint research and internships.

Satbayev University and City University of Hong Kong signed the agreement to establish an innovative strategic partnership in December 2023. As part of the contract, the parties agreed to open a branch of CityU University on the basis of Satbayev University, opening up the opportunity for Kazakhstanis to study at one of the best technical universities in the world.
