Continuity of creation: An exhibition dedicated to 90th anniversary of Union of Kazakhstan’s Architects opened at Satbayev University

April 8, 2026 - The grand opening of "Architecture of three generations" unique exhibition took place within the walls of the legendary Polytech. The event, dedicated to 90th anniversary of Union of Kazakhstan’s Architects, brought together masters of national architecture, leading scientists, practicing architects and students.

The event was hosted by the director of T.K. Bassenov Architecture and Construction Institute, renowned architect Bolat Kuspangaliyev, who stressed that the choice of Satbayev University as the venue for the anniversary of our country’s Union of Architects was very symbolic:

"It was here, at our university, that the intellectual base of architectural education in the country was formed for decades. Our exhibition is a bridge between epochs," Bolat Kuspangaliyev said.

Throughout the century, Satbayev University has had a system-forming influence on forming the architectural appearance and architectural education in Kazakhstan. It was here that the national school of architecture was formed and the institutional framework for the training of architects was built, which was reflected in the exhibition. The exhibition shows the complete evolution of architectural thought in Kazakhstan: from classical works by Soviet architects to innovative digital projects by university students.

University’s Rector Meiram Begentayev congratulated the architects of the country on their professional holiday and addressed the guests with the welcoming speech:

"Architecture is a frozen music and a chronicle of history. Today we see how the experience of great masters is intertwined with the daring ideas of young people. It is an honor for our university to be the cradle for the generations who built and continue to build independent Kazakhstan. Everything that is designed at our university is the work of our hands," said Rector.

The exhibition demonstrates all the stages of the path traveled by architects’ three generations, including archival drawings and landmark projects of the Soviet period and the first years of independence, the implemented facilities of modern bureaus, innovative developments by young university scientists – incredible in their boldness and depth of study of ideas reflecting the unified genetic code and architectural traditions of our country. The honorary guests of the exhibition were Gabit Sadyrbayev, President of RK Union of Architects, and Tokhtar Yeraliyev, legend of Kazakh architecture, academician and First Vice-President of “KAZGOR” Design Academy, who cut the red ribbon and officially opened the exhibition.

Speaking to the students, Tokhtar Yeraliyev, one of the first graduates of Polytech School of Architecture, shared his memories and professional parting words. The opening of the exhibition was not only a tribute to Union’s 90-year history, but also an inspiration for the students of “Architecture” department, who will design the future’s cities.

“Architecture of three generations” exhibition pays special attention to projects focused on environmental sustainability, energy efficiency and creating a comfortable urban environment, demonstrating that the new generation of architects emerging at Satbayev University already offers solutions capable of responding to global challenges and at the same time taking into account local specifics.

The exhibition is available to the public in the lobby of Satbayev University’s Main Academic Building for a month.
