Financial literacy without myths: how financial security is taught at Satbayev University

Lectures on financial literacy were held at Satbayev University. The event was organized by Institute of Project Management in cooperation with partner relevant departments. Azamat Kaliyev, Lieutenant Colonel of the Economic Investigation Service, Head of Forensic Department of Almaty Department of Economic Investigations at Financial Monitoring Agency, and Dmitry Akmayev, chief specialist of Social Projects and Financial Literacy Department at Agency for regulation and development of financial market, shared their knowledge about the proper use of loans, fraud protection and effective personal budget management.
Financial literacy is especially important for Satbayev University students, because future engineers and entrepreneurs will work with expensive projects and investments. Open classes with leading experts are a unique opportunity for students to get to know the professional environment better and prepare for their future careers.
- We expect as many questions from the students as possible, - said Dmitry Akmayev. - Basic knowledge, of course, is very important, but university teaches, first of all, communication and problem-solving skills. If you master these skills and constantly learn, learn new things, the value of a specialist increases significantly. And with that comes high incomes.
The speakers highlighted topical issues of financial monitoring, economic investigations, as well as the significance of improving the financial literacy among the population. Special attention was paid to modern challenges in the field of economic security and an effective method of countering financial crimes.
- In my work, I have repeatedly encountered situations where a lack of knowledge about finance led people to serious debts and legal consequences, - said Azamat Kaliyev. – Now young people are actively looking for ways to make money online, and they are not always able to distinguish a legal source of income from a fraudulent scheme. That is why financial literacy is important not only for students, but also for the entire youth of our country.
