Kazakhstan’s young geologists have shown their skills at the Karkaraly landfill

The II Kazakhstan Geological “Satbayev” Universiade, a large-scale field competition that brought together the strongest students and future leaders of the geological industry, began at the Karkaraly geological training ground.
Olympiad was held on the initiative of Geology Committee at Industry and Construction Ministry of the Republic of Kazakhstan and Satbayev University on the basis of A. Saginov Karaganda Technical University’s Karkaraly geological training ground.
During the week, 35 participants from 7 leading universities in the country will perform practical tasks in key geological disciplines, demonstrating the knowledge, skills and the ability to work in the field. They are accompanied by supervisors, volunteers, and guests. The event was attended by Chairman of Geology Committee at Industry and Construction Ministry Yerlan Akbarov, and Minister of Science and Higher Education Sayassat Nurbek sent a congratulatory message to the students and wished them success.
Program includes competitive tasks, geological survey routes, master classes, scientific consultations and lectures from experts. Special attention was paid to teamwork and professional orientation - the students met with representatives of the largest subsoil users and exploration companies in the country, such as Kazakhmys Barlau, ERG Exploration, KAZ Minerals, Kazzinc, Qazaq Geophysics, Azimut-Karaganda and others.
As Akmaral Bayssalova, head of Department of geological survey, prospecting and exploration of mineral deposits at Satbayev University, one of the organizers of Universiade, noted, the given large-scale event inspired students to conduct their own research and work for the country’s benefit. To a large extent, this was facilitated by the place where Universiade was held - Karkaraly geological training ground, one of the few specialized field sites in Kazakhstan, where for half a century there has been comprehensive training of geological students in conditions as close as possible to real practice.
- Modern geology requires high professional training, analytical thinking and possession of innovative methods, – said Akmaral Omarkhanovna. – That is why we always support such initiatives and make every effort to bring the university closer to production and inspire students to become specialists who meet all current requirements.
Confirming their commitment to evolving the science and education in Kazakhstan, large industrial enterprises Kazakhmys Barlau and ERG Exploration supported the Universiade by providing a logistical base and elaborating the training geological route for the competition.
Satbayev Universiade has once again confirmed the status of Satbayev University as a center of attraction for young talents in geology. The participants not only strengthened their professional skills, but also broadened their horizons, established academic ties and gained valuable experience in interacting with the industry. Universiade has become a vivid example of how the unification of universities, business and the state contributes to creating the future human resources potential of the geological industry in Kazakhstan.
