KazNITIU opens the Building Information Modeling technology for Kazakhstan

Management of the Institute of Architecture and Construction named after T. Basenov (IA&S) with the support of Iskander Beisembetov, Rector of KazNRTU, begins on the preparation and retraining of students and architects for the integration of the Building Information Modeling (BIM) technology into design and construction field.
BIM is a fundamentally new approach to design, created in the mid-90s, but realized only in the 21st century with the advent of powerful computers and software.

The essence of BIM approach is in integrated teamwork of not just architects, but a group of other specialists. A huge array of interconnected data is transformed into a 3D model and processed in real time. The architect and his team can make decisions on the project at a new level so the BIM technology fundamentally changes the whole approach to building, equipping, operating and managing the life cycle of the construction project.
To ensure the construction industry with qualified personnel holding BIM, the university management decided to open 1-year profile magistracy with a specialization in BIM-technologies on the basis IA&C and introduce " the discipline "Fundamentals of BIM-Technologies" to students of the specialty “Architecture” from September 2017. It will include lectures of experts, courses of designers-practitioners who use BIM in their work, a profile course of companies supplying specialized software and building practice.
University named after K.I. Satpayev became the leader in the introduction of BIM technology in Kazakhstan. 16 IA&C teachers passed training with passing the credit and receiving a certificate on the program "The most important thing about BIM" in November 2016.

Six months later, in April 2017, a forum on BIM-technologies with participation of construction practitioners and experts was held in KazNRTU. It was for the first time in the CIS. At the end of April this year the First International Innovation Forum "Digital Kazakhstan: BIM-Technologies in Architecture and Construction" was held on the basis of KazNRTU. The forum was the first platform where builders and representatives of state structures were able to discuss topical issues of BIM implementation and application, share experiences and establish interaction. Within the framework of the event, presentations, mini-presentations and discussions, master-classes of designers-practitioners, demonstrations of BIM-models and meetings of students with potential employers were organized.
