"The future of the country is in the hands of youth": Almaty youth gathered at Satbayev University to discuss the new Constitution

Satbayev University hosted a meeting of active youth from different universities in Almaty "Referendum: the position of youth" with the participation of Akerke Abylaikhan, deputy chairwoman of Committee for Higher and Postgraduate Education at RK Science and Higher Education Ministry. The dialogue was devoted to discussing the role of youth in socio-political processes and the importance of Constitution as the basis of statehood and independence of the country.

The moderator was the student ombudsman of Almaty, Chairman of Almaty Students' Alliance Aibolat Sembiyev, who stressed the importance of an open dialogue and active participation of young people in discussing the socially significant initiatives. The students were also addressed in the TEDx format by Almaty student body’s leaders, who shared their views on how they see the country’s future and the importance of the new Constitution for the givens process.

The meeting finished by the speech of Akerke Abylaikhan, who addressed the students with the intention to attend the referendum. She noted the importance of Constitution as the foundation of independence and stability of Kazakhstan, as well as the special role of young people in strengthening the main principles and initiatives, essential for the prosperity of Kazakhstan, such as "Zan men tartip", "Tolyk Adam" and "Zhana Qazakhstan":

"Today, it is you, the youth, who are the main force that will be responsible for the country’s future. Constitution is not just a document, it is the foundation of our independence, our statehood and unity. The opportunity to preserve and strengthen these values is in your hands. Law and order should become an internal choice of each of you," Akerke Abylaikhan said.

The meeting ended with an award ceremony: university students were awarded diplomas from  Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Sayassat Nurbek, for their contribution to the growth of youth initiatives and participation in public life. 

Satbayev University, as the country's first technical university and one of the leading scientific and educational centers in the region, has traditionally served as a platform for open dialogue between government agencies and the student community. Holding such meetings helps to strengthen the bond between young people and government institutions, form an informed civic position and develop students' leadership skills.
