President of Kazakhstan awarded scientists for elaborating the high-purity selenium production technology

On the eve of Republic Day, Kazakhstan’s President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev signed Decree on awarding the citizens, who have made a significant contribution to the development of the country, science and innovation. Among those mentioned are representatives of education, industry, healthcare, culture and sports.

The Al-Farabi State Prize in Science and Technology was awarded to scientists of Satbayev University for elaborating the technology for producing pure selenium from copper sludge with 99.5% content. The given technology makes it possible to efficiently extract rare elements from metallurgical waste and turn them into a valuable industrial resource.

The work was carried out by the team led by Doctor of technical sciences, Professor Bagdaulet Kenzhaliyev. The research is of great importance for the environmentally sound processing of raw materials and the strengthening of Kazakhstan's raw material independence.

President's award was a recognition of the contribution of domestic scientists to the national metallurgical science growth and the confirmation of the potential of Kazakhstani technologies capable of competing at the global level.
