Satbayev University and Green Coal International will reduce carbon emissions at Ekibastuz STPP

Satbayev University has signed a cooperation memorandum with American company Green Coal Technology, a developer of unique eco-friendly technologies. The document was signed by Vice Rector for Science Yerzhan Kuldeyev and Company Director Gregory Vodzhak.

At the moment, both sides are discussing future projects, which will include laboratory testing, joint elaboration and adaptation of innovative Green Coal Technology technologies to Kazakhstan conditions.

The technologies created by Green Coal Technology are designed to recycle waste in the sustainable approach and use clean energy. With the help of supercritical CO₂, rare earth elements and valuable minerals are extracted from the ashes of thermal power plants. The gas for the given process is obtained directly from industrial emissions. In this way, harmful emissions become a source of strategic resources needed for electronics, energy, and high-tech manufacturing.

Pilot projects are already being implemented at STPP-1 and STPP-2 in Ekibastuz. The project’s main idea is to use supercritical CO₂ produced from flue gases as an environmentally friendly solvent. The technology operates in a closed loop and simultaneously reduces carbon emissions and extracts valuable components from waste that previously could not be efficiently recycled.
