Satbayev University and “Kazselezashchita” have updated the collaboration program in the emergency protection field

Satbayev University hosted a working meeting of University’s Rector Meiram Begentayev with the delegation of “Kazselezashchita” state institution at RK ESM, headed by Yerbolat Sadyrbayev. The parties signed a memorandum of cooperation aimed at developing the joint scientific research and degree programs in the field of prevention and elimination of natural disasters consequences.

Satbayev University and “Kazselezashchita” have a long history of collaboration. Climate change is known to increase the risks of natural hazards, such as earthquakes, floods, and breakouts of moraine-glacial lakes. Calculating the risks of a threat to people in order to prevent them is a task that University and Center for emergency prevention have been solving jointly for many years. Now it is being planned to expand the cooperation.

Acting director of Geology and Oil-Gas Institute Yergali Auelkhan stressed that the new memorandum will significantly expand the cooperation program and will empower to include projects using the latest innovative methods:

"As a university, we have great scientific potential," he said. – We have equipment for remote sensing of the earth, we can conduct geo-radar surveys, geodetic surveys or make maps using unmanned aerial vehicles, simulate mudflow flows, and so on.

The new agreement provides for the joint implementation of scientific projects, training seminars for students and specialists, as well as the development of automated monitoring and warning systems for natural hazards. Special attention will be paid to the training of highly qualified specialists, as well as research in the field of preventing the mudslides, avalanches and landslides, which is especially important for the mountainous regions of Kazakhstan.

In turn, Yerbolat Sadyrbayev noted the key role of scientific and educational partnerships in the fight against natural disasters.:

"University offers us an excellent scientific and educational platform, – he said at the meeting. – This is certainly a new level, a new contribution, a new pace of work, so we believe that we will really achieve our goal.

The signing of the memorandum was a significant step towards strengthening the country's scientific and practical potential in the field of civil protection and sustainable development.
