Satbayev University and the Private Fund «Almaty Air Initiative» establish a consortium to improve air quality in Almaty

Satbayev University and the Private Fund «Almaty Air Initiative» have signed a consortium agreement that creates a new platform for joint research, educational initiatives and the deployment of urban technological solutions in the field of air quality.
For Satbayev University, clean air is a strategic priority. It is about the health of students and staff, the quality of urban life, and the University’s responsibility to the city of Almaty.
The University expresses its appreciation to the Almaty Air Initiative for its professionalism, consistency and leadership in advancing the air-quality agenda. This partnership combines scientific expertise with civic engagement, turning knowledge into tangible change.
The consortium unlocks significant opportunities for the city and the academic community. In the near term, the parties plan to:
- establish a city eco-lab and hold a hackathon focused on clean-air solutions;
- carry out joint R&D and develop academic modules on air quality, ESG and urban ecology;
- advance digital urbanism, including modeling a digital twin of a selected district.
The consortium will evolve and expand, inviting other universities in Almaty to join, pooling competencies and scaling best practices from campus to city.
«Clean air is a prerequisite for health and productivity at Satbayev University. Together with Almaty Air Initiative, we aim to move from measurements and research to practical solutions that every Almaty resident can feel,» said the Rector of Satbayev University.
«We see strong potential in the university community to develop and scale solutions. Partnering with Satbayev University is a step toward systemic change and greater citizen engagement,» said Zhuldyz Saulebekova, Executive Director of the Almaty Air Initiative.
