Satbayev University held an eco-hour, having taken a step towards a sustainable future

Satbayev University hosted the eco-hour, an initiative aimed at sustainable development, ecosystem conservation and combating the climate change. The participants discussed waste recycling, reducing the carbon footprint and preserving the biodiversity. The event brought together students, teachers and university staff around the topic of environmental protection and responsible consumption of natural resources.

Eco-hour is part of Satbayev University's long-term program to promote the sustainable development principle. University has established Center for Sustainable Development, the first university center of its kind in Kazakhstan. University supports environmental initiatives, develops innovative technologies to support the environment, and conducts educational work. For several years now, special eco-points have been located on the campus for separate collection of garbage, paper and plastic, filters have been installed in the drinking fountains.

University has opened a student eco-hub, an innovative production facility where students collect plastic to recycle and create benches, costume jewelry and souvenirs from it. Energy for recycling is generated using exercise bikes, which highlights the university's commitment to using the environmentally friendly technologies.

In March 2025, Satbayev University organized an environmental campaign to green the dormitory grounds. Students led by Rector Meiram Begentayev planted new trees, supporting the initiative of Kazakhstan’s President "Taza Kazakhstan", aimed at improving the environmental situation in the country.
