Satbayev University is demonstrating the large-scale growth of the scientific ecosystem and commercialization of elaborations

Deputy of RK Parliament Mazhilis Tansaule Serikov visited Satbayev University. During the visit, he got acquainted with the key facilities of the university ecosystem: City University of Hong Kong branch, Inclusion Center, Techno-park, nFactorial incubation program and Engineering Center.

Today Satbayev University is one of the leaders of applied science and technological entrepreneurship in the country. Today, 162 projects are being implemented here within the framework of state financing and 33 projects for the commercialization of scientific results, which is one of the highest indicators among Kazakhstani universities. University has attracted 2.9 billion tenge of private investment in applied research and is actively forming a new generation of scientists: 35% of project managers are young people under 40 years of age.

The Mazhilisman also got acquainted with the work of the new STROYTECH Technopark, for the creation of which 4 billion tenge was allocated. The mobile production shop for split blocks, production of dry building mixes and polymer concrete products line have already been launched here. Within the project framework, 60 scientific papers have been published, 12 patents have been registered and 6 PhDs have been prepared as well.

Particular attention was paid to evolving the spin-off companies: this year, the university opened 12 new companies, attracted almost 1 billion tenge of investments, and concluded offtake contracts for the supply of 8.3 thousand tons of building mixes and 70 thousand square meters of paving slabs. Projects on architectural concrete and own production of membranes for reverse osmosis are being developed.

One of the program’s points was the international branch of City University of Hong Kong. This is the first foreign campus of one of the leading universities in Asia, opened on the basis of Satbayev University. Two-degree programs in materials science, artificial intelligence and civil engineering are being executed here. Students study according to the 2+2 and 1+1 models, combining studies in Almaty and Hong Kong and receiving diplomas from both countries. More than 300 students are currently participating in the program.

Deputy also visited Satbayev University Inclusion Center, where students with special needs are helped to study in the comfortable environment as well as organizes individual conditions, consultations and psychological support.

"Satbayev University demonstrates an integrated approach: it trains specialists, develops innovations, creates equal conditions for all and builds international partnerships. Such initiatives are the key to the country's sustainable development," noted Tansaule Serikov.

During the visit, Majilis Deputy Tansaule Serikov also became familiar with the work of the nFactorial program, the largest summer school for young IT startups, which takes place at Satbayev University. University provides participants with access to classrooms, laboratories, and technical support.
