Satbayev University scientists received State Prize for outstanding achievements in science and technology
On the eve of Republic Day, President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev signed Decree on rewarding the citizens with state awards for significant contributions to the socio-economic, cultural and spiritual development of the country, strengthening the friendship and cooperation between peoples, and active social activities.
Among the awardees are labor veterans, representatives of working professions, the manufacturing sector, business, science and education, healthcare, military personnel, law enforcement officers, cultural, sports and art figures.
The al-Farabi State Prize in science and technology was awarded to scientists of Satbayev University, the team of authors of "Atlas of Hydrogeological Maps of the Republic of Kazakhstan" fundamental work - Academician of RK NAS Malis Absametov, Doctor of geological and mineralogical sciences Rakhmatulla Ayazbayev, Academician of KazNANS Yerzhan Kuldeyev, candidate of geological and mineralogical sciences Yermek Murtazin and Academician of RK AMR Vladimir Smolyar.
The Atlas creation was the first project in the history of Kazakhstan for integrated mapping of the country's underground hydrosphere. For the first time, data on the geological structure, aquifers, chemical composition and ecological condition of groundwater have been systematized, and a unified geographic information system covering the entire territory of the republic has been formed.
The work has been recognized as a unique scientific achievement of strategic importance for ensuring Kazakhstan's water security and implementing the policy of sustainable environmental management. The atlas is already used by Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation, Geology Committee, regional Akimats and the country's leading universities in evolving the water supply programs, agricultural development and environmental policy.
According to international experts, the work of Kazakhstani scientists meets global standards for mapping water resources and serves as a model for other countries in the region.
