Satbayev University students have started studying at the partner University of America as part of the two-degree program

In 2024, Satbayev University launched a dual degree program with Penn State University (82nd in QS ranking) in 3+1+1 format by majors: petroleum engineering, cybersecurity, geology, materials science, and law.

Uniqueness of the given programs lies in the fact that Satbayev University, in tandem with the top university in the world, trains "individual" lawyers in narrow-profile areas of technical expertise that are in demand in the Kazakh and international labor markets. This case has set a precedent when the top technical university in Kazakhstan, in collaboration with the global research center, improves the qualifications of an engineer on the grant basis, turning them into a sought-after professional who is able to work competitively in complex international engineering and infrastructure projects.

Last academic year, 2 students graduated from this program, Zhumabai Shapagat and Amangeldi Arystan.

Also, 3 more students of Satbayev University – Orsariyeva Nurjamal (geology), Nurdaulet Seisenbekov (petroleum engineering) and Utebekov Aldiyar (cybersecurity) started studying at Penn State in 2025-2026 academic year.

In addition, 11 Satbayev University professors have started their one-year scientific internship at Penn State under “500 scientists” program of Ministry of Science and Higher Education, which is administered by JSC “Center for International Programs”. As part of his business trip, First Vice-Rector for International Cooperation and Strategic Development Samgat Yermekbayev met with students and professors at State College and held an orientation information session for them.

At the same time, S.Yermekbayev, on behalf of Satbayev University Rector M.Begentayev, congratulated Mr. Fotis Sotiropoulos on the appointment of the new provost at Penn State and discussed the opening of the Penn State branch on Satbayev University basis.

At the end of the trip, there were working discussions with the dean of Mineral Sciences School, Lee Camp, regarding sending the students to majors in materials science, with the dean of Information Science and Technology School, Andrea Tapia, with the participation of cybersecurity faculties’ heads and with the dean of Hospitality School, Donna Cuadro-Felitti.
