Satbayev University’s young scientist’s elaboration was implemented by farmers of Kazakhstan

Young scientists from Satbayev University have found a way to combat the problem of land irrigation in Kazakhstan. Solving this issue is crucial for Kazakhstan because of problems with soil resources and climate changes that affect food security.

To contribute to solving the given problem, scientists at Satbayev University, led by land irrigator-practitioner Vitaly Kulagin and hydrogeologist Aida Ismagulova, have developed a resource-saving technology that will help preserve pasture and land resources. The scientists also offered recommendations for farmers who are already successfully used on pastures in the Almaty region.

This project is part of "Zhaiylym - Multilateral partnership and innovation in the sustainable use of pastures of the Enbekshikazakh district" initiative, funded by European Union and aimed at restoring the pastures and water resources. The project was also supported by Agricultural Producers and Entrepreneurs Association of the Enbekshikazakh district "ODAK", headed by Zvoyda Orazbakova.

To improve land irrigation, scientists use a maneuverable pumping unit that operates on non-standard sources of oasis irrigation of pastures. When developing the recommendations, they took into account the recommendations and comments of the participants of "Field Day" training, in which scientists, together with practitioners, demonstrated and tested pumping equipment in the pasture areas of the Baiterek rural district in Enbekshikazakh district.

According to the young innovators, the widespread implementation of their development will allow for sustainable management of risks associated with water scarcity in the arid regions of Kazakhstan, improve opportunities for cattle breeding and contribute to creating the exemplary cultural pastures.
