Gershtanskiy Oleg Sergeyevich
Chairman of the Board of Directors of “Oil and Gas Industry of RDI” JSC
I was admitted to the Kazakh Politechnical Institute named after V.I. Lenin in 1973. I chose this particular educational institution as I thought it was the main technical university in Kazakhstan.
At the Geophysical Faculty, where I studied, the “Seismic exploration” discipline was my favorite, it allows me to gain deep knowledge about the structure of the earth’s crust. And of the teachers I gratefully recall: Tsvetkov D.V. - Head of the Department, Karimov M.G. - Dean of the Faculty of Geophysics, Gulnitsky V.L. –a teacher of graphics, Borovinsky S.A. – a teacher of field seismic, B. Kulubekov –a teacher of petrophysics.
From the 3rd year I began to do research work. Most of my groupmates from “sculpture” group were involved in the mapping of residual anomalies of the Caspian region, where salt tectonics is developed. In the future, I revealed this topic in my diploma thesis, which provided for the integration of seismic exploration and engraving based on the maps of residual anomalies.
In addition to studying, the guys from our stream organized a brass band. We played at all the celebrations of the Institute.
Upon graduation, I firmly decided to become a professional in my field. My first job as a geophysicist at “Oil and Gas Industry of RDI”, where I analyzed the results of field geophysical surveys of wells at the Uzen field, helped me strengthen the knowledge gained at the institute in practice.
In 1990, I decided to continue my studies in the specialty and entered the All-Union Oil Research Institute in Moscow, so in 1992 I became a candidate of technical sciences for the development and operation of oil and gas fields. Then in 2005 I defended my doctoral dissertation on the topic “Intensification of high- wax oil production at the late stage of development of multilayer fields in Kazakhstan”.
I firmly decided to become a professional in my field.
I have promoted from a well research engineer to chief geologist at the Uzenneft Oil and Gas Production Department. Until 2017, I worked at the institute of JSC “Oil and Gas Industry of RDI”, in the organization of which in 1997 I took a direct part, as the General Director. Currently, I am the Chairman of the Board of Directors of “Oil and Gas Industry of RDI” JSC.
Now I can say with confidence that professional training at the university was the result of my professional career in creating the largest and most functionally certified laboratory center of the Institute of “Oil and Gas Industry of RDI” JSC. The desire to master special areas of science, determination, patience, learning, working capacity, responsibility - all this was formed during the study and became a habit at work.
Today, the task of universities is to train specialists who, after receiving a diploma, are immediately ready to work, rather than study in production. To become a specialist, a graduate of the Kazakh National Research Technical University must be confident in his knowledge, be an experienced computer user and special professional programs. If you want to become a leader, you need to start with the studying of production (from the field) or at a research institute, if you have a desire to develop science. It is also necessary to know three languages (especially technical): Kazakh, Russian and English. I would like to share my experience in the development of the “oil and gas fields of the Republic of Kazakhstan” and “Experience of the Institute of “Oil and Gas Industry of RDI” JSC.
