Communication center and the space for creativity: how teachers work at Satbayev University
Two years ago, Satbayev University changed the concept of teaching staff rooms, turning them into modern meeting rooms and coworking spaces. In a short time, University began to transform from a Soviet building into a comfortable workspace. Thus, one of the first updated coworking sites at Satbayev University continues to delight teachers with convenience and give them a good mood.
Meeting room was created two years ago by Mining and Metallurgical Institute’s teachers and was intended for meetings and recreation of teachers. Graduates helped with the furniture, each teacher made their contribution as well. Despite the fact that the room is small in size, it accommodates 20 people, which is enough for meetings and for celebrating the important events.
- It is always open here and the teachers are constantly resting here, - says the staff of MMI. - They definitely come at lunch, who is nearby. Because there are all conditions. There are kettles, a microwave, a refrigerator, and even a coffee machine. The coffee machine was presented to us by Trade Union Committee. We have had a cinema for a long time, it was presented by our partners, the company with which we work. Whatever event takes place in the assembly hall, everyone comes here.
But the main thing is the latest design created by Institute’s Director Kanai Rysbekov.
- This is the state-of-the-art design that we have collected all over the Internet, - says Kanai Bakhytovich. - Modular paintings were hung on the wall. We chose the Brooklyn and London Bridges because one of our heads completed her doctoral studies at Colorado School of Mines, and the other completed her master's degree at University of Nottingham. Next is the world map - all the countries where our scientists have visited are marked with flags on it. And, of course, a clock that shows the time of the whole world from America to China - that is, the time of Beijing, Astana and New York. We hold business meetings here, and the foreigners were pleasantly surprised. We like to think that the given room helps us establish new international connections.
