Delegation of Penn State American University arrived in Kazakhstan for the detailed discussion of collaboration with Satbayev University
Satbayev University and Penn State (Pennsylvania State University) have agreed and started the final stage of discussing the study conditions of Kazakhstani students University of Pennsylvania. To do this, a large delegation headed by Sabine Claire, who is responsible for the academic direction of international activities at Penn State, one of the top 100 best universities in the world, arrived in Kazakhstan. At the first stage, the parties agreed on cooperation under “3+1+1” program. The agreement was signed by Sabine Claire and Samgat Yermekbayev, First Vice-Rector for International Cooperation and Strategic Development of Satbayev University. According to the given agreement, Satbayev University students, upon completion of the third year, will be able to study at Pennsylvania State University, having received Bachelor's degree and Master's degree from Penn State in five years. At the same time, special emphasis will be placed on specialized focus training programs in the following specialties: cybersecurity, petroleum engineering, materials science and geology.
"I would like to note that Penn State is sending such a representative delegation to its partners for the first time in its history. The degree program that we are jointly launching is designed specifically for Satbayev University and is unique in its kind. However, we do not intend to stop there, we will develop scientific cooperation, academic mobility programs, and also consider the possibility of increasing the list of degree programs in “3+1+1” format. We also plan to send 12 of our scientists for the scientific internship under Bolashak program and 18 students under “3+1+1” program. This opens up new horizons for students and researchers of our university," Samgat Yermekbayev said.
Satbayev University, Kazakh National Research Technical University, implements degree programs in English to expand the range of international partners, as well as participates in academic exchange and creation of double-degree programs with three more universities ranked in the top 100 in QS ranking: Sungkyunkwan University (South Korea), City University of Hong Kong (Hong Kong, China) and Hof University of Applied Sciences (Germany).
For this purpose, foreign professors are invited and the number of students from other countries is increasing. All students who will enroll in Satbayev University this year will be able to apply for participation in these two-degree programs. During the meeting, one of the main topics was the issue of opening the Penn State branch - this is the main goal of the partnership, which is set by the leadership of Satbayev University.
"There is no such program as ours, with four top universities in the world, in any other university in Kazakhstan," said Samgat Yermekbayev, First Vice-Rector for International Cooperation and Strategic Development of Satbayev University. During the visit, representatives of Penn State met with researchers-fellows of the Bolashak program, as well as applicants for participation in the academic mobility program. "Kazakhstan is a very interesting country, and Satbayev University is a strategically important partner for us," Sabine Claire said. - We are ready to cooperate not only in the academic field according to 3+1+1 formula but also in the research sphere. We are also interested in student exchange within the framework of academic mobility," said Acting Deputy Provost of PennState Global.
Pennsylvania State University is a public research university in the USA, ranked 83rd in QS world ranking. University provides high quality education comparable to Ivy League universities. The size of university's endowment fund is 4.55 billion US dollars.
