Satbayev University doctoral students-metallurgists completed an internship at Worcester Polytechnic Institute (USA)
Under the guidance of the world-famous researcher in metallurgy field, Brazhendra Mishra, Maral Dyussebekova, Bekzat Abdikerim and Almas Iskendirov completed a month-long internship at Metal Processing Institute of Worcester Polytechnic Institute (Worcester, USA) and brought with them American experience in the field of secondary raw materials recycling.
- We were in Boston, New York, even flew to Miami for the weekend, says Bekzat Abdikerim about the internship. - Our Professor Brazhendra Mishra sent his best regards to all Polytech teachers.
The head of the internship is a researcher and a teacher in the field of metallurgy, materials science and engineering Brazhendra Mishra, Director of Metal Processing Institute, Director of Resource Recovery and Recycling Center, Head of Materials Science and Industrial Engineering Department at Worcester Polytechnic Institute.
He is a researcher with extensive international experience who worked in the field of corrosion and physics-chemical treatment in metallurgy and materials science at Colorado Mining School before joining WPI, and even earlier worked for Tata Steel in India, and as an honored Professor of Chemical Engineering department at Petroleum Institute in Abu Dhabi. From Professor Mishra, doctoral students received not just research experience at the highest international level, but also a new look at the basics of the profession.
Doctoral students of Metallurgy and Mineral Processing Department at KazNRTU named after K.I. Satbayev reported weekly on their work and took part in Industry Advisory Council’s meeting of Resource Recovery and Processing Center; the given meeting was held at WPI.
- It was a very interesting experience, - says Maral Dyussebekova. - Resource Recovery and Recycling Center is engaged in the recycling of secondary resources, and its meeting was attended both by university teachers, students as well as employees of companies such as Glencore, CSM, General Motors, and all doctoral students from WPI have the opportunity to conduct research together with the mentioned companies and directly offer them their scientific ideas.
Worcester Polytechnic Institute, founded in 1865, was one of the first engineering and technical universities in the United States, and Metal Processing Institute (MPI), which is part of it, is a leading industry and university center that is involved in materials science development. Due to research in the field of metal casting, heat treatment, recovery and recycling of resources, MPI scientists have received lots of awards and breakthrough patents and international recognition as well.
