Satbayev University opens a classroom named after Bagdat Shayakhmetov
On 19 October, Satbayev University held a ceremonial opening of classroom named after Kazakh production worker, Hero of Labour and former president of Ust-Kamenogorsk Titanium and Magnesium Plant Bagdat Shayakhmetov.
Apart from Satbayev University senior managers, Silvan Geller, the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the plant, Asem Mamutova, current president of the plant and friends and relatives of Bagdat Shayakhmetov also attended the event.
“We all observe the incredible production performance the Ust-Kamenogorsk Titanium And Magnesium Plant has achieved under the management of Bagdat Mukhametovich. And this progress was made possible not only by appropriate funding and new technologies, but also by proper treatment of human labour. And this serves as a proof that a man is the most important part of success. I express my gratitude to the management of the plant and to all the people who contributed to its success. We are proud to name our modern classroom after such an outstanding person,” said Satbayev University Rector Iskander Beysembetov.
Silvan Geller, The Chairman of the Board of Directors delivered a speech in which he noted the necessity of higher education and the importance of naming the newly opened classroom after an honorable man for present and future generations of students.
“This university laid the foundations for his further work. His patient labour and sharp mind turned Ust-Kamenogorsk Titanium and Magnesium Plant into one of the leaders of titanium industry. He greatly supported education and continued to work with his university. Many of our employees studied here and many of your students pass their practical training at our plant. The classroom named after Bagdat Mukhametovich Shayakhmetov will remind students of his amazing life and inspire them towards great accomplishments,” said Silvan Geller.
After the official ceremony, guests cut the ribbon and opened the modernly equipped classroom where students will study general metallurgy. We congratulate Mining and Metallurgical School after O. Baykonurov on the newly opened classroom and hope that the life of Bagdat Shayakhmetov will inspire many generations of metallurgy students.
Bagdat Shayakhmetov (1946 г. – 2013 г.) is a Kazakh production worker and a former president of Ust-Kamenogorsk Titanium and Magnesium Plant, Hero of Labour. In 1969, he graduated from Kazakh Technical University as a metallurgical engineer. He received a doctoral degree in Technical Sciences. He started his employment career as a worker of the fifth level and was promoted to director of the plant. Since March of 1998 he serves as a president of Ust-Kamenogorsk Titanium and Magnesium Plant. He introduced new technological levels of production and benefication of raw materials, slag extraction and production of titanium bars and alloys. He initiated the construction the new site for titanium slabs production. Many projects were conducted under his management. Since 2002, a member the National Council of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
