Satbayev University students have begun preparations to represent Kazakhstan at Penn State
Stephen Barnes, Dean of International Programs at Penn State University, met with Satbayev University students planning to study at Penn State under "3+1+1" program as part of the strategic partnership between the two universities. He held a speech before the students and revealed his experience of studying abroad, student freedom and the benefits, which are received by a young person who studies at Penn State, USA.
"You will have a life-changing experience," Mr. Barnes said in his speech. “You will receive tools that will help you become the best specialists, make an impact on your country and family. And when you arrive, you will not just study, but also represent Kazakhstan in the USA.”
Mr. Barnes advised students to make acquaintances, communicate with teachers and believe that everything is possible if they work hard enough. After that, he answered the students' questions and suggested how to apply properly to participate in the program.
The program, developed by Satbayev University and PennState, involves admission of Satbayev University students to PennState and training in "3+1+1" format. For the first three years, students study at Satbayev University according to the usual bachelor's degree program. In the 4th year, students go to study at Penn State, after graduation, students receive a diploma from Satbayev University. If they successfully complete the program, they will have the opportunity to continue their education and receive a master's degree from Penn State University in America during the next year. This year, 23 students of Satbayev University are planning to apply for participation in the program.
Satbayev University and Penn State (Pennsylvania, USA) signed the agreement on strategic cooperation in education and science sphere in February 2023.
Penn State is a long-time partner of Polytech, one of the largest and most reputable research universities in the United States, ranking 83rd in the QS ranking. At the first stage, Satbayev University and Penn State are implementing the dual degree program in Engineering, Cyber Security, Material Sciences and Mining. The next step will be the organization of internships for Kazakhstani teachers in the United States.
