The new "Georgy Medoyev Center for Geological Knowledge and Research" of Satbayev University has started its work
The grand opening of the classroom dedicated to the memory of the great scientist, outstanding geologist and teacher Georgy Medoyev took place. The opening ceremony was attended by members of “Aksakaldar Alkassy” Council, university leaders and students of Georgy Tsarayevich.
One of the active participants in the renovation of the auditorium, Doctor of Geological and Mineralogical Sciences, Professor Adilkhan Baybatsha noted that all conditions were created in it not only to acquaint the younger generation of students with the biography of Georgy Medoyev, but also to inspire them to continue his work. The office is equipped with the exhibition of geological samples, in addition to educational equipment, there are also rooms for conducting scientific projects, where undergraduates, doctoral students and interested students can conduct their projects.
Georgy Medoyev is one of the founders of geological science in Kazakhstan, one of Kanysh Satbayev's team, who accompanied the great scientist throughout his journey. Center was established in recognition of Georgy Medoyev's long-term contribution to geology growth in Kazakhstan and the education of a new generation of specialists. Today, the disciples of Georgy Tsarayevich passed the baton to young followers so that the fire of love for geology could be passed on through generations.
Galina Baymakhanova, an ex-teacher of Satbayev University, a public figure, one of Georgy Medoyev's favorite students, said that modern Kazakh geology owes a lot to this great scientist:
- For me, a new audience is the transmission of fire, love of geology, love of my work. Thanks to Georgy Tsarayevich and his long-term work, many deposits were discovered, he laid the foundations of geological education in the country, the foundations of geological surveying, he was a member of the seismology committee, and in many ways ensured the resource sovereignty that has helped us to be an independent country for more than 30 years.
Georgy Medoyev's geological activity began at Semipalatinsk Geological Exploration College, where he taught general geology and methods of geological surveying. In early 1936, he was invited to Kazakh Polytechnic Institute, where he lectured for more than 50 years, organized and headed Geological surveying and mineral prospecting department for many years. Many hundreds of geologists currently working in Kazakhstan and other CIS republics consider Georgy Tsarayevich their teacher and mentor. Georgy Medoyev is the editor of the first geomorphological and neo-tectonic maps of Kazakhstan in 1980. 1:1000000 scale, which are a synthesis of modern knowledge about the structure and development of the relief of the territory in the republic.
Being a geologist of wide, versatile erudition, G.Ts. Medoyev has always sought to bring the study of geomorphology closer to the practice of geological exploration. His undoubted scientific merit is to identify the connection between the zones of oxidation and secondary sulfide enrichment of ore deposits with the stages of relief development, as well as to substantiate the prospects of the ancient Sary-arka valleys for various placers and groundwater deposits. After the Great Patriotic War, he became one of the initiators of constructing the self-protective dams above the city of Almaty, which made a great contribution to the protection of the city from destructive natural phenomena.
Georgy Medoyev Center for Geological Knowledge will become a place where new generations of geologists will not only be able to study, but also be inspired by the example of the great scientist, continuing his work for the benefit of Kazakhstan and the world scientific community.
