This is an innovative educational program designed for growing effective researchers with an emphasis on intensive scientific activity, experimental research and teaching in the area of development, design, installation, adapting and deployment of automation and robotic systems. Upon successful completion of all the requirements, graduates are awarded a Ph.D. degree in Automation and Robotics.

The program is focused on training effective researchers who meet the requirements of the industrial revolution 4.0. Ph.D. students study mathematical methods of optimal control, methods of developing intelligent systems and robust control systems, mathematical methods of adaptive control, a theory of dynamic systems, intelligent robots, mobile robots, etc.

Educational laboratories of Satbayev University for studying technical aspects of automation and robotics are generously equipped with instruments and devices from the widely known leading brands such as Siemens, Festa, Fisher-Rosemount, Honeywell, Schneider Electric, etc. The Department of Automation and Control actively cooperates with the aeronautical company Honeywell (USA), Schneider Electric (France), University of Florence (Italy), Technological University of Slovakia, State University of New York (Binghamton, USA) and others.

As part of preparing themselves for a professional activity, Ph.D. students must complete internships at the following industrial facilities: Verbulak, Siemens-Kazakhstan, Automated Process Control System – Honeywell, NAT Kazakhstan, Kazatomprom, Kazzinc, Kazphosphate MU, and Karachaganak Petroleum Operating.

Ph.D. students are expected to be actively involved in research projects under the supervision of foreign professors. Plans of study of Ph.D. students must also cover internships at leading foreign universities. For example, Lublin Technical University (Poland), St. Petersburg State Technical University, as well as universities in the USA, Italy, France, Slovakia, Japan, and Australia. Thesis write-up and defense are held under the guidance of two scientific supervisors: domestic and foreign.

Graduates of the program usually work as teachers of colleges and universities, research assistants in research centers, universities, national and private companies and other organizations that implement research, design and educational activities in various sectors of the economy.
