Specialty: "Metallurgy of non-ferrous metals"

At school I was fond of Chemistry, from the 8th grade I participated in the city and regional competitions, took prizes. After finishing secondary school in 1984, I entered the metallurgical faculty of the Kazakh Polytechnic Institute. I followed in the footsteps of my elder brother, who was already a student of this faculty. I chose the main specialty of the metallurgical faculty – “Metallurgy of non-ferrous metals”.

The most interesting subjects in the first courses were “General and Inorganic Chemistry”, in the senior courses - special subjects in metallurgy. It was very interesting for me to learn how they are mined from the bowels, and then pure metals are extracted and much more. The most difficult was the exam on “Strength of materials” in the 3rd year, but, frankly speaking, because of my own negligence - wasn't prepared enough. I had to retake the received "three" of the commission of the department. I got the "excellent" grade and at that time I was very pleased with myself.

As they say, “I was just lucky.”

A warm, friendly atmosphere was created and supported by everyone at the institute. There were no language, national, and social divisions. We felt concerned about our studies and our way of life; in production practice, teachers were with us under the same conditions.

My professional activity started back in my 3rd year, when I worked as a laboratory assistant in the laboratory of heavy non-ferrous metals, then in the laboratory of rare metals. Further life plans at the time of graduation (I must say frankly “Napoleonic”) were associated with production: to become the General director of the plant, to defend a doctoral dissertation. Later, these plans were fulfilled, carried out sequentially, and maybe (I think sometimes), as they say, “I was just lucky.”

With my career growth, I was accepted as a smelter of the 5-th category of reflective section of the copper smelting shop of the Balkhash Mining and Metallurgical Plant, and a year later I was appointed as a master of the newly created melting section to master the technology of smelting in a liquid bath. I will say for sure, of course, the main factor in my formation as a specialist was the education I received at KazPTI, which was excellent in all respects. So, in professional self-realization and career growth, the Institute played not only a big role, but, one might say, a determining one.

The most important qualities in my field of activity that were instilled in me at the University and in every possible way contributed to their formation are hard work, persistence in achieving the set goal, the ability to put into practice theoretical knowledge and the best world experience, teamwork, and responsibility. Today, for me, as the Head of the Department for integrated processing of technogenic raw materials of LLP “Kazakhmys Corporation” - a unit engaged in the development and implementation of new technologies for processing of complex technogenic raw materials, all this, together with the experience gained, is the basic foundation that gives confidence in the chosen profession and life path.

Go for it, only great goals lead to good results, only the daring ones reach the tops!

As for teaching at the University , this is a special category of professional activity, for this, you need to have a special mindset. Not every excellent production worker can be a good teacher, but not every excellent teacher can be a production worker. Although, of course, there are exceptions.

KazGMI - KazNRTU - Satbayev University, remaining the center of advanced thought, as it was during its 85-year history, must maintain and increase its leadership as the best university school in the field of mining and metallurgy - the basis of industrial development of Kazakhstan.

What qualities should a future graduate have in order to be a professional in his field? The main thing is the desire to work and improve yourself, not to waste time on the little things, not to wait for a momentary result, to be persistent in achieving goals. Knowledge of the theory of processes and devices is the basis of the foundations. This is what special attention should be paid to. The practice "will come" in the production, of course, but the theoretical foundations must be laid from a young age. Only a versatile and deeply educated specialist can learn the taste of a well-deserved victory. And this is truly great and strongly raises self-esteem, gives rise to optimism!

Addressing to the freshmen of the University, I say: “Go for it, only great goals lead to good results, only the daring ones reach the tops!”
