A representative of Satbayev University took part in the discussion of SDGs at the UN panel discussion

Panel discussion on "Kazakhstan's Business for Sustainable Development" topic was held in Astana, organized by UN Country Team in Kazakhstan and UN Global Contract. On behalf of Satbayev University, Head of University’s Project Office for Sustainable Development Goals Zhanna Tulegenova, took part in the discussion. She made a presentation and spoke about University’s important steps towards the introduction of sustainable development models in academic, scientific and administrative activities.

Business representatives participated in the discussion that gives an opportunity to acquaint the business community with the principles of sustainable development, opportunities that this gives to business and the progress of Kazakhstan in achieving it. Speakers from different fields shared their experiences and examples on implementing the SDG principles and approaches in their business models. The speakers noted that the private sector is the crucial participant in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, which makes a significant contribution to stimulating the economic growth, creating employment opportunities, developing the innovations and solving social and environmental problems.

Satbayev University joined UN Global Contract in July. During the given time, the draft Strategy of University for SDGs has been developed, Project Office has been formed, policies and a unique model of University in sustainability at the global level are being developed. University staff are trained at UN Global Compact Academy. SDG Ambitions metrics and methodologies they study are being implemented into University's activities at all levels. The work in the field of SDGs is based on orientation to the needs and values of people, their talents, ethics, mutual respect, open dialogue and personal participation in the search for joint solutions.

In her speech, Zhanna Tulegenova quoted Admiral Wilman Mcravin: "If you want to change the world, make your bed," emphasizing the role and importance of small steps in the ability to complete ambitious deeds, as well as the personal contribution and responsibility of everyone in creating the chain of global value for preserving the peace and its sustainability.
