"Advanced Materials for Sustainable Energy and Water Treatment" workshop was held at Satbayev University, dedicated to advanced research in the field of sustainable energy and water treatment. The event brought together scientists and experts from Kazakhstan and the United Kingdom, who discussed modern approaches to the use of nanotechnology, polymer composites and innovative materials to solve global environmental and energy challenges.

Vice-Rector for Science and Corporate Development Yerzhan Kuldeyev solemnly opened the workshop, and Kanai Rysbekov, Director of O. Baikonurov Mining and Metallurgical Institute, addressed the participants with the welcoming speech and wished them productive work.

The workshop focused on elaborating the new materials and technologies aimed at improving the water purification processes and increasing energy storage efficiency. In particular, Azat Seitkhan, Director of Satbayev University Engineering Laboratory, presented the key research results of his laboratory and spoke about water purification projects funded by European Union under “Horizon of Europe” program.

In turn, representatives of Combustion Issues Institute, Al-Farabi Kazakh National University and Kingston University (London) presented their projects in the field of nanotechnology and sustainable chemistry, focusing on their application to solve environmental problems. Discussion’s important aspect was the use of sustainable chemical processes and biomass-derived materials for waste recycling and monitoring of pharmaceutical pollutants. These studies are aimed at creating the effective recycling methods and minimizing waste, which contributes to environmental sustainability, reducing the environmental impacts and improving the public health.

Satbayev University has reaffirmed its leading role in scientific research aimed at solving the urgent global problems. The workshop ended with the discussion of the prospects for further cooperation between Kazakhstani and foreign scientists in sustainable energy and ecology sphere.
