Coursera Day was held at Satbayev University
University hosted Coursera Day, a series of lectures and question and answer sessions dedicated to the learning process on the platform and the results of Satbayev University students who have been studying online since September.
Coursera Day was attended by Eklavya Bhave, Coursera’s Senior Director in Asian Countries, and Eduard Kan, Regional Director for Business Development in Central Asia. Together with other speakers, they shared the subtleties of learning success stories, and answered students' questions.
Raissa Uskenbayeva, Director of Automation and Information Technologies Institute, Satbayev University, delivered a welcoming speech at the opening of the day, whose Institute became a launching pad for working with Coursera at Satbayev University.
- Satbayev University has always been an innovative university, - said Raissa Kabiyevna in her speech, - this allowed it to become the first technical university in the country. It is symbolic that it was here that students got access to international online education for the first time. And this step proved that we are able to integrate into the international educational space, we can be recognizable and master new technologies. I think this initiative will be continued at other Institutes of our University.
Innovative forms of education, such as learning on Coursera platform, are the hallmark of Satbayev University. In order to integrate online education into the normal student process, many seminars were held at University and a lot of daily work was done. But the students’ results speak for themselves: during two semesters they not only got used to the new format, to the English-speaking educational environment, but also were able to take the best from it. In the future, University professors’ best lectures will take their rightful place on the platform.
The next step will be the integration of teaching in English into the daily practice of University - Automation and Information Technology Institute’s students will be able to study in English from the 2023-2024 academic year. The announcement of this was made at Coursera Day by University’s Rector, Meiram Begentayev. The given initiative will integrate University more deeply into the international educational process and open new career doors for its graduates.
