Creative future of Almaty: Satbayev University hosted a meeting with Kazakhstan’s leading architects
Famous architects, representatives of the city administration and construction companies gathered at Satbayev University to discuss the issues related to the campus renovation of the first technical University. The meeting was timed to coincide with 90th anniversary of University, it was attended by Deputy Director for Science of “Almatygenplan Research Institute and chief architect of KAZGOR design company Tokhtar Yeraliyev.
The meeting was held at the initiative of University's working group led by Honorary architect of Kazakhstan, Director of T. Bassenov Institute of Architecture and Construction Bolat Kuspangaliyev that is working on the project to rebuild the campus as part of the initiative of RK President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev to create a research hub for new technologies based on Satbayev University. The project is included in the number of public investment projects and provides for the renovation of scientific laboratories, the construction of 3 new academic buildings, two dormitories and the research techno park.
The principal topic was the integration of University's creative space into Almaty’s urban space as one of its centers, fully open to the city’s residents and visitors. The foundation of Satbayev University campus is currently based on buildings built in the 50s and 60s - these are old buildings and dormitories that will be demolished and replaced with modern scientific and educational buildings. Infrastructure for students and teachers will be improved, and accessibility for people with disabilities will be ensured.
Art projects will become part of the campus, including “Dos Mukassan” Alley, which will be located north of the university along Masanchi Street, Saken Narynov Alley, as well as an open public space in front of Main Academic Building, connected to Bukhyr-Zhyrau Boulevard.

We ask what we have done for the country and our city, - Satbayev University’s Rector Meiram Begentayev said during the meeting. - That's our goal. We ask for your professional support to make sure that we have chosen the right path for the whole city’s benefit.
Professional architects highly appreciated the submitted projects and expressed their desire to support them. The idea of making one of the campuses open to citizens was especially noted, so that the university would become part of the urban space.
Satbayev University is a university famous throughout the country. Over the 90 years of its activity, University has trained more than 130 thousand engineers who have achieved success in leading industries, economics, science and public administration. Creating the research and innovation hub on its basis will take the university to a new level and open the doors to even more future leaders of our country.
