Ecology must be constantly dealt with: Student Eco-hub has been opened at Satbayev University

The first Eco-Hub was launched in Almaty on the basis of Satbayev University within the framework of “Taza Kazakhstan” program. The project is aimed at involving the students in separate waste collection and the formation of an ecological culture.

Ecohab is an innovative production facility where students can collect unnecessary waste and recycle plastic to create useful things from it. Benches, costume jewelry, and animal figurines are produced here. Ecological energy is used for production: students can work out on exercise bikes and at the same time produce energy for shredders that grind plastic.

The founder of the project, Yevgeny Mukhamedzhanov, emphasized that the culture of caring for nature is a process that cannot be seen, but can be felt, and students can become the driving force behind environmental changes in society. There are plans to open eco-pubs in other universities of the city.

"We are planning to create a training center, a real eco-hub," said Yevgeny Mukhamedzhanov. "This is an opportunity for everyone who studies at the university and lives nearby to come, bring their waste and participate in its recycling."

For this purpose, the center has created "Green University" program, within which master classes will be held and they will talk about the problem of greenwashing. In the future, it is planned to combine all the developments and create an eco-truck that will move around the city.

The project has become an important step in evolving the environmental culture and continues to expand its capabilities by attracting other universities to apply for the program.
