September 24, 2017 a team of students KazNRTU named after K.I. Satpayev "MadTima" won the third place in First Red Bull Soapbox Race in Kazakhstan. It was first Soapbox Competitions in Central Asia. There were more than 60 national teams from all over Kazakhstan. Automotive blogger Beibit Alibekov, television producer Dan Ryskeldinov, race car driver Arman Smailov and advertiser Askhat Uskembayev were in the jury of the race.

Red Bull Soapbox Race is an international competition, where non-professional racers compete on cars created with their own hands. Racer’s fantasy is unlimited. They build baby carriages, tanks, sharks, copies of the legendary machines and once it was the golden bridge of San Francisco. The idea of the race is very simple - the participants climb to the top of the hill and descend down. The task is to gain a good speed, to finish first and not fall down.

The "MadTima" team is a junior team consisting of four students of the 3rd engineering year. The team includes Captain Temirlan Salid, pilot Haydar Valiev, navigator Timur Alimbekov and Askar Shamshi. The machine they built weighed 78.6 kilo - this was a good weight. Together with the passengers, the car was 230 kilos, which helped to develop a good speed. The team acted under the patronage of the President's Club of Astana Motors and was dressed in combat form from the Paris-Dakar race.

Temirlan Salid says:

- It was a lucky chance that such a large team noticed us. Our mentor was racer Arthur Ardavichus. He was one of the jury and opened the race as a special guest. He experienced the track first and then he introduced it to, taught us what to do, helped us and gave instructions. A day later the race he flew to Monaco for the next round of the competition.

- Why did you decide to participate?

- Red Bull spends many crazy activities. However, Red Bull Soapbox Race corresponds to our professional interests - we decided not only to study engineering, but also to build a car with our own hands. It was good as a practical work, although we did not have enough experience, but thanks to teamwork, we achieved the result.
