Participants of Interstate Council for Geodesy and Cartography of the CIS visited Satbayev University
Within the framework of 36th session of Interstate Council for geodesy, cartography, cadaster and remote sensing of the Earth of the CIS member states, held in Kazakhstan, Council members visited Satbayev University. Heads of geodetic and military topographic services were solemnly greeted by Kanai Rysbekov, director of Mining and Metallurgical Institute, and Yerzhan Kuldeyev, Vice-Rector for Science and Corporate Development, made a welcoming speech.
The program of the visit began with the laying of flowers to Kanysh Satbayev’s monument after whom University is named. The delegation got acquainted with the campus, visited Geological museum and heard a report on the scientific work of Satbayev University dedicated to elaboration of the geoid model of the Republic of Kazakhstan - the most important project for creating the unified state coordinate and elevation system.
Then the guests moved to Mining and Metallurgical Building, where they visited the Sydykov Center and Engineering Center Laboratory. The delegates visited the photo gallery of the famous Kazakh vocal and instrumental ensemble “Dos-Mukassan” as well.
Interstate Council was established with the purpose to implement the agreement on cooperation between the CIS states in the field of geodesy, cartography, cadaster and remote sensing of the Earth. Council promotes the collaboration advancement between geodetic services, coordination of joint work, exchange of experience and directions, informing the industry condition in the states and the prospects for their growth. Meetings have been held for more than 30 years and in 2024, Council is chaired by the Republic of Kazakhstan.
The visit of Council members to University is an important step that strengthened international cooperation in the field of geodesy, cartography and remote sensing, as well as demonstrated the scientific and educational potential of Satbayev University in the given sphere.
